John Kerry continues to display a lack of courage when it comes to the issue of President Bush’s National Guard service record. Rather than just forthrightly stating an accusation, Kerry continues to bring up allegations made by others.
The issue here is, as I have heard it raised, is was he present and active in Alabama at the time he was supposed to be. I don’t have the answer to that question and just because you get an honorable discharge does not in fact answer that question.
He does not raise the issue himself, he merely mentions that it has been raised. He of course fails to mention that the loudest Bush accusers are michael Moore and regular posters of the Democratic Underground.
If Kerry believes that George Bush’s Honorable Discharge from the National Guard is invalid and the he did not fulfill his service obligations and that this makes him unfit to serve as president then he should have the courage to to say so.
Perhaps Kerry’s strategy is to have the troops try to wound Bush politically then charge in for the kill once they have him down. Emerging triumphantly with Bush’s sullied Guard record held high.
Perhaps Kerry knows full well there is nothing to the allegations but is hoping that some of the charge will stick if it stays in the press long enough. By never making the charge himself but merely commenting on the accusations of others he is safe from any fallout.
Mr. Kerry, if you have an accusation to make, have the courage to stand up and make it.
