FBI to investigate terrorist ties

by on November 23rd, 2003

In a break with the past, the FBI today has started an investigation into Saudi Arabia’s ties to terrorists by collecting Embassy bank records.

U.S. officials said the FBI’s Washington field office subpoenaed the records of dozens of Saudi bank accounts to determine whether Saudi government money knowingly or unknowingly helped fund extremists in the United States.

Hopefully, this will turn over a new leaf for the administration and cease the activity of playing nice with a government that supports terror–or, at the very least, does not discourage it–because of the American need for oil. After all, why is this the first action against a nation from which a vast majority of the 9/11 hijackers came?

Like it or not, our dependence on foreign oil has caused us to tiptoe around the issue with the Saudis. But it looks as if we’re not tiptoeing any longer.
