A Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll taken this week shows 57 percent expressed support while 33 percent said they would oppose military action against Iran. Ten percent were unsure. The poll of 1,555 adults was conducted Jan. 22-25.

Iran, the Middle East’s No. 2 oil producer after Saudi Arabia, said earlier this month that it will resume research on the nuclear fuel cycle. Germany, France and Britain on Jan. 12 called for the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, to hold an emergency meeting to vote on referring the issue to the Security Council.

The U.S. endorsed the call and a meeting will be held Feb. 2-3. Iran maintains its nuclear program is designed to produce electricity. The U.S. and EU say they fear the aim is to build a nuclear weapon.
